Community-Based Instruction
At Community School of San Diego, we believe that every student can be part of their community. Community activities are selected to support the student’s school program and reinforce skills in real-life settings.
Here are some examples of typical outings:
Balboa Park Museums – Navigation Skills, Social Skills, Academics (science, history, social studies)
Bowling – Social Skills (peer interaction, turn-taking, waiting)
Library – Academics (language, history, social studies, science), Social Skills
Grocery Shopping – Money Skills (purchasing, budgeting), Safety, Executive Functioning (planning, organization)
Hike with Occupational Therapist - Gross Motor Skills, Navigation Skills, Community Safety
Group Games at the Park with Speech Team – Social Skills, Communication, Gross Motor Skills
